We've still got work to do. I realized this more than ever this year when I started teaching in Texas. I have never encountered students who in the eighth grade would talk about dropping out of high school. I've worked with struggling students, kids who can't read well, kids who have trouble at home, kids who are poor. This year I'm working on inspiring my students to think of a different future for themselves.
