Halloween

*Image & card by inkadinkadoodle

Happy Halloween to you all.  Are you dressing up today?  I'm not allowed to dress up for work, neither are the kids.  I am excited to finally have trick or treaters at our house.  I think that if anyone dresses up, it will be Odin for sure.  He is pretty cute on Halloween (not as cute as this duo, though).  Eat plenty of your favorite candy today and be sure to enjoy yourself.  What is your favorite Halloween treat?

Jack

*Image & card by cleanwash

This is a fantastic statement and I found it rather inspiring on this lovely fall day.  Yelling & laughing is quite the way to go out.  I wouldn't be surprised if this was true for ol' Jack.  How about you, go quietly or rage into the night?

Unplugged

I'll be offline for a few days.  We're switching cable companies and when the new guys came to install their lines, they cut the current line.  It will be a few days until everything is fixed which means that I am posting this because someone in the neighborhood has unsecured wireless internet access that is spotty at best.  I think it will be great to unplug, but I'm bummed because I know I'll be done with my book after tonight.  Guess that means I grade papers.  Bummer.  What do you do when you're unplugged?

Display

*Image by The Selby via sfgirlbybay

I love the idea of the antique china cabinet for a shoe display.  The ornate gold details make the shoes art, and make the hutch at home in a bedroom.  I don't know what it is about women and their shoes, but this is a brilliant way to put them on display.  I have a friend who would totally appreciate this and could possibly replicate it in her boudoir.  I'm inspired, but my shoes are not display worthy.  Are yours?

Wine

*Image & print by PRINTforLOVEofWOOD

My husband said we needed to open a bottle of wine for the spaghetti sauce.  He suggested I pick a wine I'd like to drink a glass of.  I blame him.  I get it now when teachers, and anyone for that matter, blog or talk about going home to a nice glass of wine.  He didn't have any, the sauce got some, but I drank more than my one leisurely glass.  I can't do this on a regular basis, I'd hate my kids for sure.  How do you unwind after a long day at work?  Does wine do the trick?

Fall?

Ok, it's October and Halloween is next week (parties this weekend).  What did I do yesterday?  I put on my tank top and shorts over my swim suit and drove over to my friend's pool for a leisurely afternoon of sunbathing.  October?  The fall makes me hate TX a little less, because really it's just summer to me.  Albeit a summer I can stand to enjoy outside.  My mind is still blown that I enjoyed a pool day in my bikini a week away from Halloween. This climate is messing with my head.  Are you in wool socks yet or can you still enjoy a pool day yourself?

Score!

I've been shopping for a dress to wear to my cousin's wedding for ages.  I've already been complaining that everything I like is purple, but when I found this dress I couldn't resist.  At first, I just wanted to know the designer & size because the tag was missing.  The price tag said the dress was still $100 and the rack where I found it had it slated for a mere 20% discount, not enough to persuade me, despite the perfect fit.  When the sales girl scanned the tag to see if she could find any more information I glanced at the screen and saw $48!  For forty eight dollars plus tax, there was no way I was leaving this dress in the store.  Now I have my very own designer dress (original price close to $400) in a bright orchid shade of purple.  I think I can suck it up and rock it.  I keep reminding myself that November anywhere other than San Antonio will need warmer accessories so for now I have it paired with polka dot tights, inspired by Joanna, and some ankle booties.  What do you think? How else could I wear it?

RAD

*Image & print by La Pelirroja

Finally the day has arrived.  We've waited a long nine months for Rowan Alexander Dennis and he's finally here born this morning at 6:22 AM Seattle time.  RAD is right. I've been speculating for a while whether this little boy would truly bear his namesake and have a ginger tint to his complexion.  Little red one?  Literal or figurative, I bet this kid will have a little fire to him.

Striped

This is what I'm wearing today. I spotted this dress when I was in Fredericksburg, for Oktoberfest. It looked great, but there was no way I was paying full price for this simple cotton dress. Oh how I love the internet for shopping and finding sales, I paid less than half price for my dress. Don't you love a good deal?

Flight

*Image & stamp by creatiate

We finally sucked it up and got plane tickets to fly to Chicago this November.  Sucked it up, is right.  I cannot believe how ridiculously expensive it is to fly out.  Hopefully the week we have with family is relaxing and fun, otherwise I'll be grumpy.  Ahhh, the lengths we go for family.  I wonder how long it takes to drive to Chicago from TX?  I never would have considered driving before, I know it's possible, could it have been cheaper?

Allergic

*Image & card by Lettuce Press

So, two weeks ago I got hit by a sledgehammer cold/virus that made me all congested and miserable.  Somewhere between then and now I was hit with allergies that have kept my sinus pressure at an all time high. I am so tired of being an obligate mouth-breather.  My face hurts and I am over this.  The weather is beautiful now and all I want is to get outside to enjoy it!  I wish I could just go for a run, but you kind of have to breathe to do that.  Hence, the card.  F* it.  I think I'm going to attempt jogging regardless.  Any tips for clearing up seasonal allergies?

Cover Art

*Cover Art by Elliot Salazar via The Fox Is Black

Obviously, I am a geek for books.  This is not news.  Today I stumbled upon a most marvelous contest on The Fox Is Black: Re-Covered Books.  The redesigned versions of The Outsiders were brilliant and captivating.  Again, why can't I have shelves of books with covers this amazing?  Kids totally judge books by their covers, and this would be more than helpful.  I strongly urge you to go browse the selections and the other Re-Covered contests to see what creativity abounds.  I am dying to purchase one of these images as a poster for my classroom.  But, which one?

Swap

It is time to go through my closet and clear out stuff I haven't been wearing and didn't wear last year.  My girlfriend and I are hosting a clothing swap this Saturday.  I know that I will be bringing a ton of pants to swap because mine don't quite fit anymore.  I'll also be looking for new pants then, I guess.  Fingers crossed. I've started experimenting with new combinations from my closet, but am still far from fashionable.  What do you do when you're in a style rut?

Columbus

If you have the day off today, lucky you.  I am officially jealous.  Not only do all of my students have the day off, I have to go to work and cannot even wear jeans.  Talk about a bummer.  My husband will be sleeping in today, taking a nice long swim without me and possibly even running.  I would love to sleep in and enjoy an extra long weekend.  Nope.  Are you working hard today or hardly working?

Relief

*Image & print by pocketcarnival

Last night the thunder boomed so loud overhead it woke up the whole house.  Lightning flashed outside as if someone were turning off and on a light switch and the storm drenched the neighborhood.  Dry stream beds filled with water, plants perked up and the air cooled off.  Tonight we opened all of the windows to let in the fresh clean cool air.  I am so happy that the temperature is dropping.  Our neighbors gathered outside and we could finally hang around and talk to each other without wanting to seek shelter or escape the unbearable heat.  I am a fan of this Texas fall.  How is the weather in your neck of the woods?

Purple

*Image & dress via J.Crew

I've been searching high and low for a dress to wear to a wedding next month.  Next month!  I can't find anything I like that is formal enough, and what I do find just so happens to be purple.  Guess what the primary wedding color is? Yep, purple.  I really don't want to go the boring route of little black dress, but there might be no other option.  Shopping is so uninspiring for me lately, especially because I keep coming up empty.  What's a girl to do?

p.s. I do like the pictured purple dress, I could wear that on a regular, non-wedding day right?

Disappointed

*Image & buttons by Seventwothree

On Wednesday for the past few weeks I have been so disappointed to learn that Friday is still two days away.  I'm one day closer to Friday now, but I just wish these weeks moved a little faster and that the weekend was just a little slower.  How do you get over the hump?

Oktoberfest

*Image & print by LuciusArt

Saturday we headed to Fredericksburg to celebrate Oktoberfest in a German-Texan town.  Full of decongestants with a pocket packed with Kleenex, I set out to eat some sausage and to taste some good locally brewed beer.  Surrounded by people in lederhosen, we listened to accordions and tubas play music while we relaxed in the local town park.  I'm glad that we drove out to participate.  I can't resist a good beer sampling event.  Do you have a favorite Oktoberfest brew to recommend?

Pressure

Not only did I have a tremendous amount of grading to do this past weekend, to top it off  I was sick.  Friday, I brought a handkerchief to work so that I wouldn't drip snot on my students.  Once I got home, I promptly curled up and let my husband make me some chicken noodle soup.  Needless to say, I got absolutely no grading done.  Ugg... My sinuses are still angry and I'm still stuffed up, but much improved from the achy faucet that was my face on Friday.  Supposedly it's October already, which means I shouldn't be surprised about a cold, or even being sick.  Yet I wore shorts, a tank top and sandals to the grocery store on Sunday.  Finally the temperatures here make spending time outside bearable.  My immune system knows it's fall, but my mind is still confused.  How are you reacting to October?
