Lazer

*Image via Piper Lime

When I look at these shoes I try to imagine tiny little lazers cutting the intricate details. Either way, I am looking forward to seeing them up close and putting them on my happy little feet. Nothing beats comfortable shoes, except for pretty comfortable shoes that you bought on sale. I'm pleased and now I have some mail to look forward to. How happy are your feet?

Bougainvillea

The front of our house was desperately lacking in color, until today. I made my way to a local gardening store and picked up some lovely plants to liven up the front patio. Living in the South does have some perks, tropical plants love it here and I can grow flowers like bougainvillea and hibiscus in my front yard. Not bad. I also get to start growing basil in the fall. Pesto here I come. What have you planted lately?

Zoe

Tonight Zoe & Chris are tying the knot, getting hitched, taking the plunge, jumping the broom. I am so excited. I'm also bummed because yet again, I am thousands of miles away. I am so happy for them both and can't wait to hear about all of the great details.

Sequins?

*Image via J.Crew

When I got my first J.Crew catalog in the mail at the new house I was excited. I do love getting mail. Then, I saw the abomination above. Who in their right mind thinks that a sequined sweat pant is acceptable, let alone fashionable? It makes me sad to think of small hands attaching sequins one by one to what amount to be glitzy elastic-cuffed lounge pants. It makes me upset that some poor soul thinks that this ensemble might look good on a real person. It makes me angry to think that some sucker out there already paid $650 for this fashion disaster. Shame on you J.Crew. What were they thinking?

Ink Blossom

*Image & dress by J.Crew

I can't tell if this dress would be fun and awesome, or if it would just look terrible on me. Luckily, I have a few friends I could pass it off to if it didn't work for me. I'm shopping for something fun to wear when I'm celebrating my birthday in Seattle. What do you think, awesome or awful?

Mockingjay

*Image via Daemon's Books

Today the final novel in the Hunger Games trilogy was released. You bet I went straight to the book store after school to pick up my own copy. The first two books were fantastic and I will begin reading Hunger Games aloud tomorrow during our designated reading period at the request of my students. That makes my day. Have you read anything great lately?

Again

It's a wrap, school has officially started today in cities across Texas and my summer is over (except for those lovely weekends I now look longingly forward to). Another year in the 8th grade is in store for me, all I can do is keep my fingers crossed that it will be a good one. So far, I have a huge classroom with a wall of windows to look forward to. Not too shabby. New markers in my desk and a few new stickers too. What was the best thing about the first day of school for you?

Weekends

*Image via davierae painting by Roy Lichenstein

Saturday? No, today is Friday and off to work I go yet again. Sadly, I'll also be off to work tomorrow in order to prepare myself for another first day of school on Monday. Summer went so quickly this year, so fleetingly. I'll mourn the end and celebrate the beginning. Luckily, I can look forward to sleeping in on Sunday. What are you doing this weekend?

Lunch

*Image & sandwich bag by Zummi

A few of these would be a great addition to my lunch. My sister-in-law said that there are even more magical reusable pouches available that are bordered by velcro for easy cleaning and when opened up make a nice place mat whilst you enjoy your food. This is making me hungry. How do you pack your lunch?

Face

*Image & notebook by Our Workshop via i am a greedy girl

Students might get this joke, what do you think? This face book also reminds me of the Halloween episode of The Office where Jim dressed as book-face (facebook, really). I always geek out for school supplies, guess this means I'm in the right profession. Aside from paper, pens, pencils, and markers are my second favorite. What about you?

Abe

This might have to be my new motto for the year. My good ol' Keep Calm is holding steady as ever in my new palace of a classroom but some things have already thrown me for a loop and I've only been back for a whole day. Like I said, maybe not a new motto - but a supplementary motto could work for me right about now. Leave it up to honest Abe for my inspiration. Can you believe I've only been at work for a whole day and there is already crap going down? Oh drama, not on my behalf. I hate drama. How about you?

Suckers

*Image via Calico Corners

Today I get to work in my new classroom, now known as the palace. Not bad. This fabric is my new inspiration for an art piece for my friend's room, she'll need some tentacles around to lift her spirits. I'm crossing my fingers for a good first day. I'll even be good and take out my nose ring. Happy Monday?

Summer

It's over. Almost, gone. Tomorrow I will have an alarm go off way too early to head back to the old grind stone. I am off to milk my very last day of summer vacation.

Teeth

*Images by me

Can you see those tiny little teeth? Bulldogs, for some reason, have tiny worthless little chicklet teeth. For some reason these tiny teeth exist, probably because they are cute. Speaking of teeth, we just found out that my husband needs a root canal. Not fun in the slightest, not cute either. I figured it would be more amusing to post pictures of puppy teeth than aching human teeth. I'm not a personal fan of the dentist either, so that doesn't help. Hopefully all goes well and his tooth gets fixed soon. How is your weekend so far?

Sungold

*Image via Calico Corners

There is something about yellow in or near a kitchen that makes it cheery. Supposedly, yellow colors encourage conversation. When I found this fabric I thought it would look very much at home in my dining room (just adjacent to the kitchen). I am deliberating on how to construct these curtain panels considering that the pattern is on a super large scale. Luckily, the husband likes the color and the pattern so it's a go. Making curtains entails sewing straight lines, which I am very good at. What do you think of yellow near the kitchen?

Bonnet

Today I have the privilege of meeting a friend's new daughter. I'm glad that I'm crafty and had some time on my hands yesterday to whip up a sun bonnet for the Texas summer sun. This is actually much easier than I originally thought, and because this is my second bonnet ever I even added a few embellishments now that I am comfortable with the pattern. Now that my friends see that my craftiness has little limit, once the baby explosion hits I'll be sewing around the clock. Lucky kids right?

Fashionable

*Images & clutch via Kate Spade

A book? Take a second look... it's a clutch disguised as a book. Hats off to Kate Spade, making reading fashionable. It probably wouldn't be the same if I hollowed out a copy of one of my favorite hardbacks and started using it as a purse, but it could be worth a shot. Being well read is definitely a fashion forward idea, hopefully anyone sporting such an accessory has at least the sense to have read the novel. Compliment and then quiz?

Freedom

I can't believe this is my last week of freedom. Bummer. Things are changing at my school and the rumors don't sound like it is a good thing. I'm ready for another year of 8th graders, hopefully now that I know what to expect I can make the most of it. But man, summer went by quickly. Can you believe it's almost over?

Dino

Now that I am back from a fun vacation where we got to visit anamatronic dinosaurs and sandy beaches sitting in the living room with the bulldog still isn't half bad. I got some sun, saw family and spent time relaxing. I've got to update my reading list faster because I devoured two books and am on a third as I type. I've got to get it all out of my system before school starts. What have you been reading?

My lovely French teacher friend and her Frenchman are being married today. I wish I could be there to raise my glass to you - À votre santé.

Aloha

Aloha to my sister and new brother-in-law who were married in Hawaii last month. Today we get to celebrate with them and I'm really excited. I'm also nervous because I get to meet some of my husband's relatives for the first time today. Hopefully they like me... I do wish we were in Hawaii - the ocean is a better version of the Great Salt Lake.

Coloring

Being an aunt is the best treat. I love feeling awesome, giving helicopter rides, and coloring. Nothing bad about spoiling little kids and then handing them back over to their parents. It is almost like being a celebrity, especially when you live far away and can come bearing gifts or send surprises in the mail. No complaints. Have you been in touch with your inner-child lately?

Salt

When we go to Utah I really wanted to swim in the Great Salt Lake, but my husband said it wasn't really that cool. What isn't cool about being extra buoyant or finding giant crystallized rocks covered in salt? Everything is cool about those things. Maybe, as a tourist I can sway the group. Either way, while I'm in Utah I will swim in a real lake. I will hike on real mountains and I will not miss the humidity. Not at all. Any recommendations?

Foil

Today I sucked it up and went to get my hair done for the first time in TX. I wish I had a better or even glowing report of my experience. I have spots where the foils bled through and the foil placement looks like I've had a few weeks of growth. I have to go back in and have it fixed. This is where I make a sad face and miss my stylist and Seattle. At least I don't look like Dolly Parton.

Panel

*Image & curtains via West Elm

Today my mission is to head to West Elm* to check out their curtain sale. I have paint samples and colors gathered to hopefully find a good price on curtains for the living room and for our master bedroom (we still have a lovely fleece blanket working as an interim curtain). I like the idea of saving money and adding some visual interest and privacy to our windows. It is so hard to get motivated when I have absolutely no responsibilities this week. I'm glad that I'm back to summer vacation.

Sofa

This is step one in the sofa transformation. The cushions are now tolerable and we have a nice little place to sit and relax outside in the evenings. The sofa was perfect yesterday because it provided ample seating for our housewarming party. We had a great time and enjoyed hosting all of our friends. Even Trevor admitted that all of the work we put into the house was worth it after our guests showed up. What a great time. How is your weekend treating you?
