Garden
We finally bit the bullet and decided to try to garden in this godforsaken state of TX. Yes, you can grow things here - but you have to fight to keep them alive in the summer. Yesterday we cleared a spot in the yard to put in some raised beds. My mom sent me the Square Foot Gardening book for Christmas and we're going to put it to the Texas test. It got up to 86 degrees yesterday and with the humidity and hard labor it was a scorcher. I even have the sunburn to prove it. This will hopefully be a fruitful project at the house - as soon as we get some seeds and plants in the ground. What yard projects are you undertaking?

I feel your pain. We've spent the last several weekends cleaning up our yard, and this past weekend planting grass seed. It was in the 80's, I got sunburned through my shirt, and only the sense of budding-garderner's pride and accomplishment has been able to counteract my aching body. Today it's snowing (yes snowing, like two hour delay snowing) and we're crossing our fingers that all our baby grass seed isn't dying... again.
I feel like you might need to make one of those hoop green houses to try and keep it from scorching all of your precious plants. Either that or soaker hoses.
@convictus - did you read the part where the greenhouse "raises daytime temperatures 5-10 degrees (and often much more)"?
I think that we'll put up a burlap shade and cross my fingers that the TX planting guide is accurate.
@Mrs. Fischer - snow?! After 80 degrees?! That is nuts. I can't believe it. At least we won't have snow to deal with down here.
