Boredom

*Image & print by Magnolia Moonlight

Things to do when bored... I can think of more to add to the list, but unfortunately I cannot do anything about the boredom I will be subjected to today and tomorrow. My students are taking the second round of their state tests and it is my duty to actively monitor and be locked in my own head while pacing the aisles for two days. I would much rather have something to do, to entertain my mind while I walk around the room. I might even volunteer to take the test myself (totally not allowed to even look at the test for too long). I'll be channeling some good music on my way to school tomorrow. What do you do when you're stuck and bored?

Darning

As much as I complain about work and terribly behaved children, I still do care for them... That is the hardest part of my job. They are teenagers, sometimes jerks, don't always do their work, aren't always respectful - but that is their job. Not all of my kids are sour lemons and today I made one of my students give me his shirt so I could take it home and sew up the giant gaping hole where his sleeve was pulling apart from his shirt. I laughed when I sat down at my machine because I didn't need to change my thread or bobbin. The color of our 8th grade uniform shirts that I detest on a daily basis matches the curtains I'm sewing for the dining room. Ironic?

Blog

I guess I've gotten really used to blogger because today when I started a blog for my kids at school using WordPress I was not happy. My site wouldn't format the way I wanted it to, images were showing up in the wrong places, I couldn't manage quite the way I am used to. I've been messing around on the site for too long considering I only put up 2 posts. That would have taken me all of five minutes with blogger... What are you grateful for in terms of technology today?

Bunnies

Happy Easter to you! I'm getting ready for a lovely brunch with friends. My husband baked a cake that I cannot wait to sample and I think the day will be lovely. How are you spending your Sunday?

Outfitted

*Image & outfit by Anthropologie

Lately, I have been trying to re-work some pieces in my current wardrobe so that I look a little more put together. Usually, I put on an outfit that works and that is about it. Now, I'm trying a little harder with my accessories and my planning to be a little more stylish versus thrown together. I'm a creature of habit so once I find something that I like I tend to gravitate to that particular outfit. How do you change up your closet habits? How do you accessorize?

Earth

*Image & card by Red Bird Ink

Happy Earth Day! It's a beautiful day and I'm planning on taking the bull for a walk around our expanding neighborhood today. I am excited to have some extra time at home this weekend to work on some projects and hang out with my husband and our pets (one of which is currently actively dreaming in my lap). Mulch and dirt are in our near future, hands in the ground tending our yard. What are your plans for Earth Day or the weekend?

Reading

*Image & bookmarks by BelieveNotes

Today is a day where I know I will like my job more. My students are reading in class today and that means I get to read along with them. Usually, my kids hate to read but for some reason they love the books they picked out. Today, I will get paid to read (and kick noisy kids out of class). A whole day of reading that is paid for, that is the life. What are you doing today?

Tools

*Image & garden fork by CopperAndTin

This weekend I am ready to get my hands dirty. No hunting of eggs in my future, but plenty of garden stores full of flowers. I think that dreaming about a garden is the trick to get me through this week. New houses are going up in front and behind our house so it's time to make our yard more appealing. I should probably make sure I have more than just my hands to dig and weed. I want to plant some color in the front yard and to eat tomatoes ripened in the back yard. How do you compare to the neighbors?

Sprout

Still learning about gardening in South Texas but we do have some rosemary and parsley that are growing nicely in our front yard. I have some Texas lavender planted too and can't wait for that to bloom. It's right near the walk way so that I can admire it daily. Do you have flowers greeting you yet?

Gardening

Surprisingly, my husband has been the person pushing gardening at our new home. He wants to build raised beds in our back yard for some vegetables and herbs. Gardening in Texas has been something I was resisting because the summer heat is so horrendous. We're going to give it a try and will definitely be in close contact with some local master gardeners. Changing climates was hard enough on me physically, now I get to think about delicate plants. Lettuce? No way! Hot peppers? Yes!

Mastered

I have a dear friend with a new home and when I saw this bedroom I thought it would be a good point of inspiration. I love the slate color, it's been on my radar for a few years now. I'm also wishing that I could come and help, not just to decorate but also to just hang out and be with my friend. I think that is what I really want. I'll stick to inspiration boards and day-dreaming for now. Only a few weeks and I get to hang out with her. I'm very much looking forward to that. What is inspiring you lately?

Today has turned me into a grouch. Grades are due tomorrow and now I'm in a bad mood. Boo. How did Wednesday treat you?

Fiesta

This week will be one work day short for me. That doesn't mean I'm not going to have to cram in an extra day's worth of work. We have Friday off for the local Fiesta parade, but I think I'll stay home and relax. My final grades are due on Thursday and therefore I need to get cracking to make sure they are finalized this week. (Like I said, more work and less days). I wouldn't mind some fiesta activities, margarita & a piñata anyone?

Chef

I have a personal chef and today he cooked me some tasty breakfast potatoes to send me off and start my day on the right foot. Typically I eat something I can take with me and munch in the car, this was a real treat. What do you eat for breakfast?

Week

*Image & print by nickagin

A kid doesn't want to do work? Fine, they can fail for the day. I'm done fighting to make those few want to learn or even attempt it. I will funnel my energy to the kids who are in my room to work, be inquisitive and learn every day. I need to put a positive spin on this and will work harder to pick my battles. I can do that, but it's not easy by any means. I don't think I have given up - I am re-directing my efforts. How are you wrapping up your week?

Almost

Today I am wishing it was Friday. Everyone in my house woke up early today, including me - although it wasn't in my plans. One more day, right?

Elder

*Image & card by The Social Press

My grandfather is 90 years old. I think that if you make it to 90 and you're still doing well that you definitely deserve a ribbon or medal or something. I can't believe how lucky I am to still have a grandfather who is still caring for himself and is still mentally as sharp as ever. I want to be like that when I'm 90. Who is your oldest living relative?

Late

*Image via Roxy

I'm late, again. Life got a hold of me and I forgot to post something this morning! I've been experimenting with a hair straightener (on my straight hair) and have been adjusting my schedule to accommodate for yet another addition to my beauty regimen. My original routine consisted of a shower followed by face lotion, eye liner and blow drying my hair. Now after I shower I use a toner, lotion, eye liner, blow dry and now flat iron. I love the modern look of the hair style but am not yet committed to the time it takes. I'm so lazy in the morning, I would rather spend my extra time in bed. How complex is your morning routine?

Lawn

After a full day of water polo, a wedding and a birthday party yesterday I'm glad I'm still in my pajamas. I slept in and have been gazing out at our freshly mowed lawn while grading papers. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday. How was your weekend?

Weeds

*Image & print by Sunshineheartdesign

I have some crazy mutant weeds growing in my front yard. I sprayed them with some weed killing spray but still they stand. I know that they will be going to seed soon and making more work for me in the future. Time to get my hands dirty and pull those suckers up. Sound like fun to you?
